If an animal is lost:
  • Check cupboards sheds, garages, local halls, gardens hedgerows.
  • Look in the in the lost & found section of local papers.
  • Inform the Police (important for all dog owners).
  • Inform as many vets as possible (animals do not have boundries when on the run).
  • Contact local schools - children are observant as regards to animals.
  • Inform local RSPCA and other animal welfare shelters etc.
  • Check with local Council Health Department - they are the people who recover the bodies of dead animals
  • and are encouraged to keep a description.
  • Also tell postman, milkman. dustmen etc.
  • Advertise posters on gates, local newpapers and radio and other suitable sites, distribute leaflets to shops, post offices garage, neighbouring houses etc.
  • If offering a reward, always specify "LARGE reward offered", what is small to you may be a large sum of money to someone else.

Finally when you are reunited with your animal or an owner is located, please make sure to inform all the organisations you have contacted.
